The Greene County softball team saw their season come to an end July 11 in Saydel, falling 12-2 in the regional championship game.
The action started with the Eagles scoring a run in the first inning, with three in the second and five in the third. The Rams remained scoreless until the fourth inning, where they scored both of their runs for the game, with Saydel scoring three more in the fifth inning, ending the game by the 10-run rule.
Four hits from the Rams included singles from Emma Stream, Payton Kokenge and Chanlyn Cunningham, and a double from Stream. Becca Anderson hit two sacrifice bunts, with Emma Hoyle drawing a walk. Paige Teeples reached on an error and seven Rams struck out.
On the field, the Rams had 14 putouts and six errors on 28 total chances. Hoyle threw 51 pitches, allowing 11 hits with eight earned runs, six walks and two strikeouts.
At the end of the season, Hoyle was ranked first in the Heart of Iowa Conference for home runs in the season, hitting eight, and RBIs, being credited with 34. She was second in the conference for wins as pitcher, 21; strikeouts as pitcher, 259; hits allowed, 78; runs allowed, 51; earned runs allowed, 28.
Olivia Shannon was first in the conference for stolen bases, with 42 this season. She was second in the conference for runs with 36. Stream was first in the conference for putouts with 267, and Alexa Peters was fifth for hits at bat, hitting the ball 39 times this season. Cunningham was fifth in the conference for strikeouts at bat, striking out only four times all season.
Ram seniors ending their high school careers were Emma Stream, Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Paige Teeples and Emma Hoyle.
The Rams will return next season, looking to continue their success after the 22-7 overall season, finishing in second place at 12-2 in the conference.
